Nephrolepis exaltata Growing and Care Tips
Light
It prefers bright, indirect light or partial shade. Avoid direct sunlight, especially behind glass, which will burn its fronds. Insufficient light will cause it to slowly die.
Watering
It likes moisture. Keep the soil evenly moist, but without soaking it or letting water stand in the saucer. Allow the surface of the soil to dry between waterings. Reduce watering slightly in winter.
Substrate
Use a humus-rich, light, and very well-drained potting soil. A houseplant mix or a potting soil enriched with leaf mold and drainage elements (perlite, clay balls at the bottom of the pot) is ideal, as is our special fern mix .
Humidity
This is its most critical need. Being tropical, it requires high hygrometry (air humidity). Mist its foliage regularly with non-calcareous water, and place it on a bed of clay balls or damp gravel.
Temperature
Ideal between 15 and 25°C. It is not hardy and does not tolerate temperatures below 10°C. Avoid cold drafts at all costs.
Size
Regularly remove dry, yellowed or brittle fronds at the base to maintain an aesthetic appearance and stimulate the appearance of new shoots.
Fertilization
Apply a liquid fern fertilizer every 4 to 6 weeks, only during the growing season (spring and summer).
