Sarracenia 'Tess' is a horticultural hybrid of a carnivorous plant belonging to the genus Sarracenia , native to North America. This variety is distinguished by its slender and upright pitchers , often marked with green, red or purple hues that intensify with exposure to full sun.

Like other Sarracenia , its pitchers function as passive traps , attracting and capturing insects thanks to the nectar produced around the opening. The cap partially protects the trap's entrance while guiding insects into the pitcher.

Vigorous and decorative, Sarracenia 'Tess' produces several pitchers during the growing season and is an ideal plant for growing in pots, in peat pots or outdoors in full sun .

Sarracenia & care of Tess hybrid Sarracenia

Sarracenia Tess and Temperature

Tolerates temperatures up to 40°C in summer. Protect from frost if the carnivorous plant is in a small pot (less than 20 cm in diameter). It can withstand temperatures down to -15°C in a large pot or bog.

Sarracenia and watering

Use only rainwater, demineralized water, or reverse osmosis water. Water that is too hard (high in calcium) will kill your Sarracenia in a few weeks. Do not use bottled water, as it generally contains too many salts, which are harmful to the plant. In summer, place the plant in a large saucer filled with water. In winter, keep the potting mix moist.

Fertilizer for Sarracenia

Absolutely avoid this! The plant provides for its own needs in organic nutrients thanks to its traps.

Substrate for Sarracenia Tess

Carnivorous plant mix is the basic substrate for many species; you can make it yourself by mixing blonde peat , perlite and vermiculite (4V/1V/1V) or blonde peat and non-calcareous aquarium sand (2V/1V).
