The Drosera androsacea, nicknamed the Cone Sundew, is a pygmy sundew native to southwestern Western Australia, where it grows in the sandy-loam and gravelly soils of low heathlands south of Perth. It joins our collection alongside Drosera paleacea and Drosera scorpioides, two other pygmy sundews already well established among miniature plant enthusiasts.
It forms small, compact rosettes with round leaves covered in sticky mucilage, recalling in silhouette our European Drosera rotundifolia, but in miniature form. A discreet, graphic plant, perfect for pygmy collections in a wide, shallow pot or a shared tray.
Like many Drosera of the genus, it follows a distinct seasonal cycle: active growth during the cool, humid season, a light rest in summer, then gemmae production in autumn for natural propagation.
