Native to Mexico , the purple queen Tradescantia purpurea is a houseplant with sought-after qualities: beautiful and ample, with its almost purple foliage all year round. Extremely tolerant, able to grow in very shady places (and of course indoors).
Finally, it is exceptionally effective for purifying indoor air, thanks to its very high capacity for absorbing volatile organic compounds. The flowers are pink to pinkish-white.
Upon receipt of the branches to be replanted (delivered in boxes full of rehydrated sphagnum moss , ideal for transport), simply stick them halfway into the potting soil . Tradescantia root very easily and quickly, provided you keep the potting soil moist but not waterlogged!

Tradescantia purpurea prefers a bright exposure. Bright to filtered light is ideal.
This plant tolerates a range of temperatures, but thrives between 18°C and 24°C. It does not tolerate temperatures below 10°C.
Keep the soil slightly moist, but avoid soaking it. Water when the top layer of soil feels dry to the touch. Reduce watering in winter. This misery is very drought tolerant and recovers easily.
Use a well-draining potting soil. Adding perlite to improve drainage can be a plus.
Fertilize the plant once a month in spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertilizer. Reduce the frequency in fall and winter.
You can prune the plant to encourage bushy growth and to remove bare stems.
Tradescantia pallida can be propagated by cuttings. Take stem cuttings and plant them in a new pot.
Repot the plant every two to three years to give it more room to grow.
