Arabica coffee tree: Care and growing tips for an exotic interior

The Arabica coffee plant, with its glossy foliage and fragrant flowers, is an elegant houseplant that brings a touch of the exotic to your home.

Interest in terrarium

The Arabica coffee plant is not ideal for growing in a terrarium. It prefers a ventilated and less humid atmosphere than that of a typical terrarium.

Exposure and temperature

  • Light : The Arabica coffee tree needs plenty of light, but not direct sunlight, especially in summer. Exposure to bright, indirect light is ideal.
  • Temperature : The optimum temperature for Arabica coffee is between 18°C and 25°C. It does not tolerate temperatures below 10°C.

Watering

  • The Arabica coffee tree needs regular watering, but not excessively. The substrate should remain slightly moist, but not soggy.
  • Allow the surface soil to dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot.
  • Use room temperature, non-calcareous water to water your Arabica coffee tree.

Substrate

Fertilizer

  • During the growing season (spring and summer), feed with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer every two weeks.
  • Dilute the fertilizer halfway to avoid burning the roots.
  • Reduce or stop fertilizing in fall and winter.

Repotting

  • Repot the Arabica coffee tree every 2-3 years, in spring, in a pot slightly larger than the previous one.
  • Use a well-drained potting soil for potting.

Multiplication

The Arabica coffee tree is generally propagated by stem cuttings in spring or summer.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Overwatering: Overwatering can lead to root rot.
  • Lack of light: A lack of light can weaken the plant and make its foliage dull.
  • Too low temperatures: Too low temperatures can damage the plant.
  • Drafts: Drafts can dry out the plant.

Additional Tips

  • Pinch back stems to encourage bushier growth.
  • The flowers of the Arabica coffee plant are white and fragrant, adding a touch of charm to the plant.
