Tradescantia are a family of 75 species from America , are relatively hardy, hence their vernacular name of "misery", which is not stolen. Fearing frost due to their strong propensity to store water, they grow very well indoors and appreciate good light without direct sunlight.
You can place them just about anywhere in your home, but access to light will define its ability to grow and, more importantly, flower.

Tradescantia fluminensis prefers bright to medium light, but avoid direct sunlight. A window with indirect light is ideal.
It thrives in a temperature range of 18°C to 24°C. Avoid temperatures below 10°C.
Keep the soil slightly moist, but avoid soaking it. Water when the top layer of soil feels dry to the touch. Reduce watering in winter.
Tradescantia tricolor appreciates ambient humidity. You can spray the leaves occasionally or place a container of water near the plant.
Use a well-draining potting soil for houseplants. A mixture of garden soil with perlite or peat is suitable.
Prune the plant to encourage bushy growth and to remove bare stems.
