Chlorophytum pacific: Care and growing tips for an elegant spider plant

Chlorophytum pacific, with its long, arching leaves and distinctive white stripes, is a popular houseplant that brings a touch of elegance to your home. Its easy care and air-purifying properties make it an ideal choice for both beginners and expert gardeners.

Interest in terrarium

Although Chlorophytum pacific can tolerate a slightly humid atmosphere, it is not ideal for growing in a terrarium. It prefers a more airy environment.

Exposure and temperature

  • Light: Chlorophytum pacific appreciates bright but indirect light. Avoid direct exposure to the sun which could burn its leaves.
  • Temperature: The ideal temperature for Chlorophytum pacific is between 18°C and 24°C. It does not tolerate temperatures below 10°C.

Watering

  • Watering: Chlorophytum pacific needs regular watering. Let the soil surface dry out slightly between waterings.
  • Frequency: Generally, watering every 7 to 10 days in summer and every 2 to 3 weeks in winter is sufficient.
  • Water: Use room temperature, non-calcareous water.

Substrate

  • Mix: Use a mixture of houseplant potting soil, garden soil and sand for optimal drainage.
  • pH: A slightly acidic to neutral substrate is ideal.

Fertilizer

  • Period: During the growing season (spring and summer), provide a balanced liquid fertilizer for green plants every two weeks.
  • Dosage: Dilute the fertilizer halfway to avoid burning the roots.
  • Reduction: Reduce or stop fertilizing in the fall and winter.

Repotting

  • Frequency: Repot Chlorophytum pacific every 1 to 2 years , in spring, in a slightly larger pot.
  • Potting soil: Use fresh, well-drained potting soil.

Multiplication

Chlorophytum pacific is easily propagated by division of the clumps or by cuttings of the shoots (called "babies") which develop on the stolons.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Overwatering: Overwatering can lead to root rot.
  • Lack of light: A lack of light can weaken the plant and make its foliage dull.
  • Drafts: Drafts can dry out the plant.

Chlorophytum pacific is the ideal plant to bring a touch of greenery and freshness to your interior. Easy to maintain, elegant and air purifying, it will beautify your home while contributing to your well-being!

Additional Tips

  • Cleaning: Clean the leaves regularly with a damp cloth to remove dust.
  • Light: If your plant is not getting enough natural light, you can use artificial lighting to supplement.
