Doodia media is a fern native to Australia , remarkable for the coppery-red color of its young fronds, somewhat like Dryopteris erythrosora . Upon emergence, the new shoots are tinged with a bright red before gradually turning dark green as they mature, creating a highly prized decorative contrast.
Its compact and structured form makes it an excellent plant for pots, bright conservatories, or sheltered outdoor spaces in mild climates. More tolerant than many tropical ferns, it can withstand slightly cooler temperatures if the substrate remains well-draining.
Graphic, evolving and easy to grow, Doodia media brings an original touch thanks to its foliage that changes with the seasons.

Bright light without direct sunlight. Tolerates gentle morning or late afternoon sun. Indoors, place near a bright window. Outdoors, a partially shaded location is ideal.
Prefers temperatures between 15 and 25°C. Tolerates occasional slight chills down to 5°C if the substrate remains well-draining. Protect from severe frosts.
Use a fresh but never soggy substrate. Water regularly during the growing season. Reduce watering slightly in winter, but do not allow it to dry out completely.
Prefers a slightly humid atmosphere, without strict tropical requirements. Suitable for a veranda, bright cold greenhouse or sheltered outdoor location.
Humus-rich and draining mix: light potting soil enriched with organic matter , supplemented with perlite to ensure good aeration.
Repot every 2 to 3 years in spring. Choose a slightly larger pot to encourage the harmonious development of the red fronds.
Apply a light application in spring and summer during the active growth period. Use a liquid fertilizer specifically formulated for ferns every 3 to 4 weeks. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which promotes overly tender foliage. Suspend fertilization in autumn and winter.
