Pteris ensiformis prefers moderate to bright indirect light . Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn its delicate fronds. Place it near an east- or west-facing window, or in a shady spot outdoors if growing in summer.
Keep the substrate evenly moist, but never soggy. Water as soon as the soil surface begins to dry out. Use rainwater or reverse osmosis water, as this fern is sensitive to minerals in hard water.
Native to tropical regions, Pteris ensiformis appreciates high humidity. Mist the fronds regularly or place a humidifier nearby to prevent the leaves from drying out. It thrives in temperatures between 18°C and 24°C, but tolerates lower temperatures as long as frost is avoided.
Use a light, well-draining mix, such as a substrate for green plants or a universal potting soil enriched with organic matter. Fertilize once a month during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted liquid fertilizer for green plants. In fall and winter, reduce fertilization or stop it completely.
Remove dry or damaged fronds to encourage new growth. This fern has little disease.
