This forest moss resembles hypnum , with its soft, feathery branches forming a very attractive natural carpet. Unlike the common hypnum, which often remains quite flat, this moss develops taller, more voluminous clumps, similar to thick moss , while still maintaining a fine, natural texture.

Highly prized for terrariums, paludariums, or plant arrangements, it allows you to quickly create a miniature forest floor effect with more depth than hypnum. Its dense, slightly upright structure adds volume to the decor while maintaining a natural, woodland appearance.

Growing tips for Pleurozium sp. moss.

This forest moss is easy to grow and adapts well to terrariums, paludariums or humid plant compositions , where it quickly forms a natural and decorative carpet.

Temperature

It prefers cool to temperate temperatures, generally between 0 and 28 °C . As in its natural forest habitat, it tolerates seasonal variations well and can even withstand lower temperatures for short periods.

Light

Place it in partial shade or under diffused light . It grows very well in the undergrowth, under terrarium lighting or near a bright window without direct sunlight, which could dry out the branches.

Humidity

This moss prefers high ambient humidity and a slightly moist substrate. In a terrarium, regular misting will help maintain lush, green foliage.

Water

Ideally, use water low in minerals , such as rainwater or reverse osmosis water , to avoid the accumulation of limescale which can slow its growth.
