A rare carnivorous plant found only in the United States in Oregon and California, this cobra plant, so named because it resembles an upright snake, is the only representative of its genus in the Sarracenia family.
Its leaves, developed to serve as traps like those of Sarracenia, are much more complex but, just like those of Sarracenia, the prey die drowned at the bottom of the leaf which has become an urn of Darlingtonia californica .
