The Davallia feejensis, nicknamed the rabbit's foot fern just like its cousin the Davallia canariensis, stands out for its fuzzy rhizomes that creep across the surface of the substrate, like little velvety paws. Native to the Fiji Islands (whereas Davallia canariensis comes from the Canary Islands), this epiphytic fern brings an original tropical touch to terrariums as well as hanging displays.
Its finely cut, light and luminous foliage contrasts elegantly with its silvery-brown rhizomes. Easy to grow, it thrives in a humid atmosphere, bright light without direct sun, and an airy, well-draining substrate (a fibrous mix such as sphagnum / bark).
Perfect for a tropical terrarium, living wall, or wide shallow pot culture, the Davallia feejensis combines aesthetics and simplicity. A graphic, lively plant, ideal for enriching a natural plant composition.

Bright light without direct sun. Tolerates bright indirect shade. Avoid harsh sun, which dries out the fronds and rhizomes.
Ideally between 18 and 26°C (64–79°F). Do not expose below 10°C (50°F). A strictly tropical plant.
Keep the substrate lightly moist at all times. Never let it dry out completely, but avoid waterlogging. Reduce watering slightly in winter.
Enjoys high humidity. Perfect in a terrarium or a bright room that isn't too dry. Misting around the plant is possible (avoid excess moisture directly on the foliage).
Use a highly draining, airy mix: sphagnum moss, fine bark, coconut fiber. The rhizomes should stay on the surface, never buried.
Every 2 to 3 years, in spring. Choose a wide, shallow pot to allow the rhizomes to spread out.
Apply a quality fern fertilizer in spring and summer, at a light dose. Avoid overfeeding.
Don't trim the aerial rhizomes: they're what drive the plant's growth and give it its distinctive character.
