Native to tropical America, the crawling callisia is called "Tortoise Liana" in the Antilles. It has a very nourishing sap for certain pets, like tortoises, chameleons and Budgerigars. It makes an excellent food complement. Of course it does very well as an ornamental plant. The name comes from Greek kallos - which means "beauty" - a name rewarding its fleshy, dense and compact foliage. The growth is fast, outdoors or indoors. Flowers are pure white and exhale a violetta-like scent.
- Use our dedicated mix - 50% peat moss, 25% horticultural compost and 25% perlite.
- Choose a luminous place, but with no direct sunlight. Providing artificial lighting may be beneficial, and enhance foliage colouration.
- Place the plant indoors or in a terrarium tank with high relative humidity for better growth, between 10 and 35°C.
- Water with rainwater or demineralized water. The soil must be kept moist all year long, but don't let water stand under the plant.
- In spring, twice a month, it is beneficial to feed the plant with fertilizer. Dilute it to a quarter.
Special shells, built to maintain the pots and to protect the leaves, are utilized.
The pot is surrounded with plastic film up to the base of the plant, for a perfect maintaining of the compost inside it. It is ready to be placed in the dedicated place.
The shell is closed and sealed with staples, maintaining the pot and leaving the aerial parts in a wide space so that the foliage cannot be crushed in any way. The identification label is affixed.
The box is accommodated in the parcel with the other elements, and the set is propped up with some recycled, paded cardboard.
