Stylidium graminifolium

Carnivorous plants image Stylidium graminifolium 8 to 12 cm of height

Perennial carnivorous plant from Australia, with grass-like leaves (hence its name). One have to look towards the flowers to see the carnivory - some sticky hairs are located below these. They can capture and digest insects. Prior to blooming, it looks like a big herb with a deep green foliage. The pink four-petaled flowers are arranged along a long spur, itself covered with sticky hairs. The foliage can measure up to 40 cm, and the floral handle can reach 90 cm.
A species that's easy to take care of, quite cold-hardy, to grow outside all year long. Nor very widespread in cultivation.

Though, the plant was first known for its ability to trigger pollen on insects that jostle on the flowers to drink nectar, enabling any other flower to be pollinated if the insect flies on it !
